Activity Report: Indonesian Representative in the 66th Annual The American Academy of Psychodynamic Psychiatry and Psychoanalysis (AAPDPP) Meeting



During May 18-20th 2023, dr. Frilya Rahma Putri, Sp.KJ (K), second vice president of Psychotherapy Section, Indonesian Psychiatric Association attended the 66th Annual The American Academy of Psychodynamic Psychiatry and Psychoanalysis (AAPDPP) Meeting in San Francisco, United States of America. This meeting highlighted two important issues; i.e. treatment improvement and enhancing training of residents and early career psychiatrists. This global meeting invited psychoanalysts, psychiatrists, psychologists, other physicians, social workers, allied professionals, students, residents and fellows around the globe.

Encouraged by Prof. César Alfonso, doctor Frilya had been entitled to present on the symposium about addressing diversity in psychotherapy from international perspective. In this round table interactive panel, she joined with other representatives from three continents to share their clinical experiences demonstrating the diversity of psychotherapy practices in different parts of the world. The topics included are xenophobia, racism, discrimination, fundamentalism, shame, heterosexism, internalized homophobia, and transphobia.

In addition, the panel discussed the importance of awareness of countertransference to prevent unconscious aggression or avoidance, in accordance with the legal aspects of medical practices. Doctor Frilya presented a case about managing counter transferences when handling patients with gender dysphoria and their family. She found out that this is not only an opportunity to present her expertise but also to collaborate with psychotherapists around the globe. (Liung/Leo)
